NEW DELHI: A pre-teen in the Indian state of Kerala has been booked for impregnating a 17-year-old girl and fathering a baby girl, India Today reported.

Being dubbed as the youngest father in India at the age of 12, the boy has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for impregnating a girl in Kerala.

The identities of the young parents and the baby are being kept secret as per the POCSO Act.

However, reports say that the baby girl was born at a hospital in Ernakulam – the mainland portion of the city of Kochi in central Kerala.

The Hindu also reported that DNA tests have confirmed that the boy is indeed the biological father of the child.

Doctors believe that the boy could have a medical condition called "precocious puberty" which made him attain puberty at an earlier age which is why he is being believed to be the youngest father in India.

An 11-year-old boy from Auckland, New Zealand, is the world's youngest father, as per a report while others give that title to 12-year-old Sean Stewart from Britain.
