LAHORE: Punjab Minister of Industries, Commerce and Investment Sheikh Alauddin has emphasised that the government will ensure the application of environmental laws and more compliance by the industries in an effort to tackle pollution in the province.

“Plastic industry is being relocated to other areas (and) we are now going to impose a ban on the import of tyre scrap,” he said while talking to media at the 3P+FT Pakistan 2017 - the 13th International Plastic, Printing & Packaging and FT Food & Technology Pakistan Exhibition that commenced at the Expo Centre Lahore on Friday.

Alauddin declared that the leases of plots where investors had failed to raise structures so far would be cancelled and they would be allotted to the investors willing to construct industrial units and provide employment within a period of two years.

Speaking about the exhibition, he said such fairs would open new horizons for investors and provide employment opportunities for youth.

He visited stalls of local and international companies and talked with the exhibitors about investment avenues.

He praised the show organisers - Fakt Exhibitions - for promoting the industries and introducing latest plastic, printing, packaging and food technology.

The exhibition is aimed at creating business and networking opportunities for the manufacturing sector. It serves as a platform for contacts with international and local companies in plastic, printing, packaging, food and technology.

Smog lays bare efficacy of environment laws

Fakt Exhibitions CEO M Saleem Khan Tanoli said the event was playing host to more than 250 companies from around 25 countries. These included Austria, China, Germany, India, Italy, South Korea, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and United States.
