ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided probe alleged theft of water from the main supply line from Simly Dam.

In this regard, the civic agency has appointed an Inquiry Officer to carry out a fact-finding inquiry and to submit a report within 15 days.

According to a letter issued by CDA’s Human Resource Development Directorate Adnan Younis, Simly Dam Division’s deputy director has been appointed as the inquiry officer to probe the matter.

The official has been directed to conduct a detailed, physical inspection of the main supply line and determine the extent of theft. Moreover, he has also been tasked to determine whether any officials conducted irregularities, to what extent and then affix responsibility. After completing his inquiry, the deputy director has been directed to submit clear and concrete recommendations to the CDA to resolve the issue.

Previously, the CDA management had taken a number of initiatives to improve water supply to residents of the city including repairs on the 40 kilometre-long main water supply line and plugging leaks. Moreover, illegal connections were also severed.

But with the issue persisting, the CDA has now decided to take strict, decisive action against officials of the authority responsible for the theft and take corrective steps.
