Failed doping test: WADA takes squash star Nasir Iqbal's case to CAS

Bannu-born claims he has done nothing wrong, remains confident of beating charge

Pakistan's Nasir Iqbal had his ban uplifted by the World Squash Federation (WSF), but his joy was short-lived as the ruling was soon challenged by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Iqbal raised a red flag when a doping test of his, taken on February 7, came out positive for banned substances, although a re-test conducted three days later came out negative.

Despite the second test proving to be satisfactory, WADA was not satisfied and it has taken the matter to the CAS.

"Now it is up to the CAS to decide what decision they give in this regard," a source close to the matter told APP, adding that the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) cannot do much as the matter is beyond their reach.

However, the unnamed source did say that Iqbal remains confident of getting a favourable decision from the CAS as he has done nothing wrong.

"If a banned substance is used by an athlete then it remains in their blood for at least four to six months," said the source while implying the Feb 7 result as a false negative.
