According to details, the census officials accompanied by security personnel were collecting census data when the attacker, identified as Fakhre Alam, opened fire. As a result, constable Taj Muhammad was injured. The security personnel accompanying the census team also retaliated by firing and injuring the attacker.
Fakhre Alam, a resident of Malakand agency, was a proclaimed offender, said the AC Tangi. Alam was shifted to Peshawar for medical aid after receiving basic treatment at the DHQ Charsadda.
Intimidation? Six arrested for aerial firing near census teams
According to AC Tangi, a Pakistan army officer has offered to pay Rs50,000 for the injured police constable. He confirmed that the census process in the area resumed peacefully.
In another incident on Monday, believed to be an attempt to intimidate, some unidentified people in a remote Abbottabad village fired into the air, just when a census team was working nearby.
According to the police, the census team was working in the Khalkhaitar village within the remits of Sherwan police when some people resorted to aerial firing.
The census officials remained unhurt, however, at least six villagers were taken into custody following the incident.
