Sukkur CTD arrests 'terrorist' from Khairpur

KARACHI: The counter-terrorism department (CTD) Sukkur claimed to have arrested a suspected terrorist of banned outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi from Khairpur on Monday.

Sukkur CTD SP Irfan Samo disclosed this while addressing a press conference at his office on Monday afternoon. According to the SP, the arrested suspect, identified as Shoaib Brohi, is one of the commanders of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi.

The suspected terrorist allegedly has links with the notorious Hafeez Brohi and Maqsood Brohi groups and is said to be involved in terrorist attacks in Shikarpur and Jacobabad. According to the SP, the arrested suspect was also a commander of a terrorist training camp in Afghanistan.

The suspect was also training members of banned outfits in Pakistan, the SP claimed. He added that the accused was also involved in attacking NATO oil tankers in Shikarpur in 2010.

Shoaib has links with Tehreek-e-Taliban's Sindh chapter and is a close aide of Aziz Shaikh, who was arrested from Karachi. The CTD has recovered hate material from the suspect's possession, SP Samo said, adding that further investigation is under way.
