KARACHI: Operating since 1952, Star Textile Mills launched this year’s Pearl Lawn Collection on March 21 at the Pearl Continental Hotel’s Shalimar Hall in Karachi.

With excessive embroidery, the collection features 26 designs most of which come in three colours. This time, the collection is priced from Rs2,500 to Rs3,200.

Though Pearl Lawn has been in the market for the past 15 years, this year’s collection has poor quality fabric that did not look and feel like lawn. About this, Muhammad Idrees, coordinator public relations, Star Textile Mills said: “We have used 100 per cent cotton. The cotton used in its making is American and Egyptian. This is wrinkle-free lawn, slightly different from the regular run-of-the-mill product.” He further added: “We are giving the general public a product at an affordable price that everybody can avail,  unlike others who have excessively charged  this time.”

When compared to other lawn exhibitions, Pearl Lawn did not receive a good response in terms of the customer-attendance. Those who were present were going back home empty-handed. “Just look at the material they are offering, it’s of a poor quality” said a customer.

When asked about the response, Idrees said: “You see the first day, people only come for window-shopping, that’s why there is no particular rush, but you must visit in the afternoon.”

Talking about the choice of date for the launch and the general competition in the market, Idrees said: “We are not competing with anyone. Ours is a different line altogether, our theme is different and only these dates were available.”

TV actor Nida Yasir, who modelled for the collection, said: “Why I chose to endorse the brand was because of the material of the fabric used in its making, which I believe is soft, the prints are cool, too. That is why I opted for it this summer. I felt very comfortable when I wore this line on most of the shows that I hosted; that’s why I wore most of these prints. I recommend this collection especially for working women. I have worn it — whats more, I can guarantee the material they are offering!”
