LAHORE: Some people never change. Sadaqat Ali spent more than a decade behind bars for murdering his own mother. He was freed about three months ago but returned to his old ways: threatening and fighting with his family.

But his luck ran out on Friday. His enraged father shot him dead, finally closing the chapter of years of violence and intimidation.

More than 10 years ago, Sadaqat had killed his mother after accusing her of an extramarital affair, police said. Just like thousands of other women slain every year in Pakistan for ‘dishonouring’ their families.

He was sentenced to 10 years in jail for the crime.

During his time in jail, his father Liaquat Ali married for the second time and the couple had children as well.

Three months ago, Sadaqat returned home. But even after spending so much time behind bars, he could not let go of his violent habits.

Soon, he started insisting his father to leave his second wife and would often quarrel with his stepmother, even thrashing her sometimes. The woman left Liaquat, fearing her stepson might kill her as well just like his biological mother.

The suspected killer grew increasingly frustrated with his son’s violent behaviour. On Friday, Sadaqat was asleep in his house in Paracha Colony when his father barged inside and shot at him. The victim suffered multiple bullet injuries and was shifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

A case (FIR 223/17) under Section 302 (murder) of Pakistan Penal Code has been registered against Liaquat, who has gone into hiding. Police are investigating the case from different angles while raids to arrest the suspect are under way.

Murder suspect arrested

The alleged killer of a trans woman was arrested by the Kahna Homicide Cell police on Friday.

Muhammad Fiaz alias Muskan was stabbed to death by unidentified suspects a few weeks ago and a case was registered against her murder.

Model Town SP Investigations Kashif Aslam said police received a tip-off the suspected murderer named Muhammad Fayyaz was present at a hideout near Chungi Amar Sadhu. Police raided the hide out and arrested the suspect.

During interrogation, he told the police that he met Muskan at an engagement ceremony and became friends with her. However, she would often demand money from him that irritated him and he stabbed her to death one day.

DIG Investigations Chaudhry Sultan and SSP Investigations Mubashir Maikan appreciated the raiding team and SP Investigations Model Town for the arrest.

Policeman injured

A police constable was injured in an encounter in Hanjarwal on Friday, just a day after two CIA constables lost their lives in a similar raid in Tibbi City.

Shaukat Ali along with a police team had gone to raid a hideout in Thokar Niaz Beg when the suspects opened firing at the law enforcers. While the victim was injured, the suspects managed to flee.

A case (FIR 235/17) has been registered against unidentified suspects.

Two foreigners detained

Gulberg police claimed to have arrested two women from the Philippines living illegally in the Sultan Park area during a search operation.

The Filipino suspects were identified as Dara Tagore and Rusawariyo and were taken into custody after they could not present any identity document. A case under foreigners act has been registered against them.
