ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Afghanistan will hold high-level talks in London on Wednesday to ease the current tensions, the Afghan ambassador Omar Zakhilwal said on Tuesday.

“I will join our National Security Adviser Hanif Atmar at the high-level Afghanistan-Pakistan meeting to be hosted by the British government in London tomorrow (Wednesday),” the Afghan ambassador said.

Pakistan still central to US Afghan strategy

Adviser on Foreign Affairs to the Prime Minister Sartaj Aziz, and British National Security Adviser Mark Lyall Grant will attend from Pakistan and Britain respectively, Zakhilwal said on his official Facebook page.

The meeting will focus on a mechanism for genuine Pak-Afghan cooperation on fighting terrorism, the current tense bilateral relations and the closures of crossing routes between the two countries, he said.

The meeting will be held at a time when relationship between Pakistan and Afghanistan is on the lowest ebb following last month’s bomb blasts in Pakistan.

Pakistan unwilling to compromise with Afghanistan on terrorism: Asif

The British ambassador in Kabul had been involved in efforts to broker the talks between the uneasy neighbours in recent weeks. He had visited Pakistan and met with senior Pakistani leaders.

The attacks were claimed by the Pakistani militant groups, which officials say now operate from the Afghan side of the border.

Pakistan closed its main border crossings on February 17 over security concerns, pushing for its longstanding call on Afghanistan to agree on a border monitoring system to stop the cross-border movement of the militants.

Faisal | 7 years ago | Reply @Khan: The ones that speak against Pakistan are the same people we gave refuge to. Did you forget Ashraf Ghani? How dare they bite the hands of those which fed them and showed them kindness. Afghans are ungrateful people, show them love and compassion and watch their true colors unfold. @Feroz: You're delusional. We've shut our borders and are not even interested in having anything to do with you ingrates! Keep your disgusting country along with your miserable affairs, but if you dare interfere in ours then be prepared for a lesson and I hope we build a large fence, big enough to keep the likes of you out. We want nothing to do with you, not even trade, WE WANT NOTHING TO DO WITH PEOPLE LIKE YOU. SO LEAVE PAKISTAN AND NEVER RETURN.
Feroz | 7 years ago | Reply The problem of Pakistani interference in Afghan affairs through proxies is known and talked about a million times in a billion places. Waste of time with another meaningless interaction will fool nobody. Enjoy the pleasure trip to London and next trip keep in Geneva, following one in Rome. Have a good time, Cheers !
