Since its launch in Lahore last year, one really didn’t expect an international western wear brand like Quiz Clothing that focused on blingy ‘party’ wear to work. But despite reservations that many fashion savvy individuals may have had along with concerns of a low lying economic climate, the brand has managed to take off and sustain itself well with a regular clientele that boasts of ex-super model Aaminah Haq and current sirens on the ramp, Fia, Uzma and Sophia Ali amongst others. At its inauguration the franchise owner, Aftab Arshad, had promised that the store would not compromise on its key feature of providing the latest in fashion trends to its clients and would hold seasonal sale when new stock arrives with the weather changes. True to that promise, as Quiz brings forth its spring line, the winter stock has been put on sale, along with other clothing like the cotton maxi dresses which had arrived earlier in the season to accommodate whole new line of summer fresh pastels.
Quiz prides itself on bringing fashion from the catwalks to their stores at affordable price’s and keeping with the season’s look. Preempting the flared trousers that are bound to hit this part of the globe soon, the brand has combined the reining skinny look with the future’s trend for flare in a resulting pair of denims called the ‘skinny flare’. Hints from last season’s powerful looks like the animal print, which is perennially en vogue whether or not it really makes an appearance on the catwalk, the store carries flirty sheer tops in leopard spots. There are a few tops and dresses that still retain the ruffles as well and are complemented by the summers favourite: florals. What is most useful however from Quiz’s spring offering is a wide selection of boleros and shrugs in soft jersey and for the more daring and style savvy, in crochet. In a generally conservative society like ours, over throws like mini boleros are must haves as a cover up in the sweltering Pakistani summer.
Yet although we may believe that our society is still quite old-fashioned, the store manager, Salman Jawad negates this saying, “Many people walk in and are surprised to see our short dresses placed up front. But they are our most popular item; that’s why they get prime location.” Well given the recent trend of pairing everything with tights and jeggings might have pushed the sales for the short dress one may assume. The Quiz average shopper is between 17 to 36 years, and as Jawad concludes quite aptly, “girls are really exposed to high fashion now and so are eager to experiment.”
