In twin cities: Young woman among three killed

Security guard surrenders but police suspect the real killer is still at large

RAWALPINDI/ ISLAMABAD: A young Pashto film artist was killed on the estate of a property dealer while a man was gunned down by unidentified people and a third was killed in Rawalpindi in separate incidents in the capital late on Sunday.

While police have managed to establish the identity the two victims, they have yet to trace the culprits involved and the motives behind the killings.

The young woman was identified as 24-yearl-old Anum, a resident of Mardan in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.



Police said she was shot dead on the estate of property dealer Sardar Shafqat in Chatha Bakhtawar.

However, after the murder Shafqat’s security guard surrendered himself, confessing that he had killed the girl. He also produced a gun which he said had been used to kill the woman.

Investigators, however, suspect that the guard’s confession is a cover up to hide the real culprit and let him go after questioning.

“The guard told us that he killed the woman because she swore at him. We are investigating the case to establish the real motive behind the killing,” an officer told The Express Tribune.

Police said the victim was an actor and a dancer working in Pashto films and dramas. She was married and mother to three children. She, however, did not live with her family since they did not approve of her acting career.

The official added that Shafqat had been in a relationship with the girl and that they were looking for the property dealer for investigation.

“First they told us that he was out of the country, but later they said he was in his village in Azad Kashmir. So far, he has not come to the police,” the officer said.



Curiously, in the FIR registered, police said that the deceased was a ‘call girl’ who used to visit the estate often.

In the second incident, a 26-year-old Saqib Shah had been gunned down by unidentified people near the Capital Enclave on Sunday within the jurisdiction of Lohi Bher police.

Police added that Shah’s body had been recovered from a link road which leads to Jinnah Gardens.

Separately, Lohi Bher police also found the body of a man inside a residential building on Sunday.

The deceased, identified as Abdul Ghani and aged between 40-45 years, was found dead in the shower. However, they found no sign of any injury or any other mark on his body and police believe he died of a heart attack.

Man stabbed to death

Sheikh Khurshid, a 43-year-old taxi driver was stabbed to death by the cook of a local hotel reportedly for using abusive language at Pirwadhai in the early hours of Monday.

The murderer, identified as 18-year-old Raja Fahad, was apprehended along with the knife he had used in committing the crime.

The taxi driver’s body was shifted to District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital for an autopsy.

According to available information, Khurshid, a resident of the nearby Fauji Colony, had gone to a local hotel near the Pirwadahi Bus Terminal for breakfast at 5:30 am.

While having breakfast, Fahad arrived and started chatting with the driver. When the driver used foul language, it enraged Fahad who stabbed Khurshid to death. A police team reached the spot and took Fahad into custody along with the murder weapon.

In another incident, 23-year-old Muhammad Sajid was killed by a moving train crossing the track near Dhoke Chiraghdin, Rescue 1122 stated.

According to eye witnesses, Sajid touched the moving train while crossing the track.
