SZABMU convocation: Youth must play their role in policy making

The university awarded 34 postgraduate degrees including MD, MS, MDS, DGO and MPhil

ISLAMABAD: Over 150 doctors and medical staff were awarded graduate and postgraduate degrees at second convocation of the Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU) at the Jinnah Convention Centre, Islamabad.

The university awarded 34 postgraduate degrees including MD, MS, MDS, DGO, MPhil). As many as 88 MBBS candidates were also awarded degrees. Further, around 21 nurses were also awarded Bachelors degrees in the convocation.

SZABMU’s Vice Chancellor of the University Prof Javed Akram said they had conducted six successful examinations for MS, MD, MDS and MPhil (Final) since 2013.

The scholars of the university, during their researches, had discovered 32 new genes while their research papers had been published in foreign Journals.

President Mamnoon Hussain in his brief remarks appreciated the services of the doctors noting that doctors must remember that the medical world is fast changing, knowledge is being multiplied and new techniques are evolving.

The youth should play an effective role in national policy making through their research publications.

“Education is the only hope to lead our society towards socio-economic progress and prosperity,” he emphasised.

The Professor Khleequzaman medal was awarded to Dr Rayif Rashid Kanth while the Prof Ghazala Mehmud medal was awarded to Dr Shazia Abdul Sattar.

The Dr William Marchial Medal went to Dr Saman Waqar.

Dr Shahroz Saud Ahmed was declared best Medical Graduate for the year of 2016 and received the Chancellor medal similarly Dr Novaira Wasim (BDS) was awarded the Vice Chancellor medal.
