LAHORE: District courts wore a deserted look as only a few suspects were brought to courts owing to the unavailability of police officers, most of whom were deputed for security purposes at Gaddafi Stadium for the PSL final.

A small number of people were brought from different police stations at Model Town, District and Cantt courts, where staffers said usually dozens of suspects are brought on normal days.

Suspects arrested on Saturday or Sunday morning are presented in courts in Sunday as they must be produced before the judges within 24 hours.

Some fiery arguments were also witnessed between police officials and families, whose beloved ones were not produced before the court.

Sadiq Ahmed, whose son was arrested over gambling charges, told The Express Tribune that Kot Lakhpat police did not bring the suspect to court. Advocate Muhammad Pervez said a few of his clients accused of petty offences had been granted bails against surety bonds.
