During the four-hour meeting, which was chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, it was also decided to root out extremism, sectarianism and fanaticism from the province. Giving directions for provision of foolproof security to mosques and other places of worship, the chief minister said, “The government will not allow terrorists and their abettors to succeed."

The participants of the meeting also decided to expand the scope of joint intelligence-based raids by Rangers and the Punjab Police Counterterrorism Department to other parts of the province. The huddle expressed complete satisfaction over the performance of the ongoing military operation against terrorists.

Prime Minister’s National Security Adviser Lt-Gen (retd) Nasser Khan Janjua, Lahore Corps Commander Lt-Gen Sadiq Ali, Provincial Minister for Counter-Terrorism Col (retd) Muhammad Ayub, Punjab Rangers DG Maj-Gen Azhar Naveed Hayat, 10 Infantry Division GOC Maj-Gen Sardar Tariq Aman, Punjab Chief Secretary Capt (retd) Zahid Saeed, Inspector General of Punjab Police Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera, Interior Secretary Maj (retd) Azam Sulaiman Khan, and other high-ranking civil and military officers attended the meeting.
