PESHAWAR: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government on Wednesday formally launched its Sehat Sahulat Card which gives poor patients  instant access to free healthcare facilities.

The scheme has attracted considerable interest and has already started yielding positive results.

“It is really amazing. My brother would have died without this [Sehat Sahulat] card,” said Muhammad Javed, the brother of Muhammad Rafiq, who underwent an open heart surgery at a private medical centre.

Rafiq, Javed said, was shifted to a local hospital as soon as he experienced chest pain. “Doctors informed us that Rafiq will have to be admitted for heart surgery, which was well beyond our means,” Javed said.

“My brother had obtained this card and we did not spend even a single penny for his treatment,” he said.

The scheme is aimed at providing improved health care to the targeted population by increasing their access to quality health services.
