PM Nawaz leaves for Turkey to hold high-level strategic talks

A number of agreements and MoUs are expected to be signed between the two countries

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has left for Ankara on Wednesday to participate in the fifth session of Pakistan-Turkey High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC).

A group of ministers and senior officials have also accompanied the premier on this trip including Minister for Commerce Khurram Dastgir, Minister for Petroleum Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, PM’s Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi.

Prime Minister Nawaz is expected to hold important strategic talks with top Turkish officials during the HLSCC session that will continue until February 24.

“The prime minister’s visit to Turkey and the convening of the fifth session of HLSCC will further deepen the time-tested, unparalleled and historic ties between the two brotherly countries and will impart a strong impetus to their flourishing cooperation in diverse fields,” said a Foreign Office statement.

The premier along with his Turkish counterpart, Binali Yildirim, will co-chair the HLSCC meeting where a number of agreements and MoUs are expected to be signed between the two.

PM Nawaz will also conduct talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan with major emphasis on bilateral, regional and international matters.

He will also visit the Turkish parliament in a bid to reaffirm Pakistan’s unequivocal support and solidarity with Ankara and Turkish people particularly after a failed coup attempt on July 15, 2016.

A joint declaration at the end of the HLSCC session will also be issued, the FO statement added.
