KARACHI: Divers of the Edhi Foundation recovered the body of a three-year-old girl, Zareena, who fell into a drain in New Karachi on Monday afternoon.

The rescue operations lasted nearly 24 hours and the body was finally found on Tuesday afternoon.

Zareena was playing with other children when she slipped into the drain in New Karachi Industrial Area on Monday afternoon.

The residents started looking for the girl on their own until the Edhi Foundation divers reached the site and started a rescue operation.

Soon after Zareena fell into the drain, the police were called, said a resident, Taha.

However, no police teams came to start the rescue operation.

Taha lamented that the area's drains have not been cleaned for years, posing serious threats to residents.
