At least six more men were killed — or found dead — on the fifth consecutive day of violence in the city. This included a political activist who was shot on Sunday and had just been discharged from hospital on Monday morning. Hours later, his body was found abandoned at Munawwar Chowrangi.
Meanwhile, a Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) activist wounded a few days ago, also succumbed to his injuries on Monday, bringing the total count to 39 since Thursday night, when the ruling party called a protest against the Supreme Court’s decision to declare invalid the government’s appointment of a key bureaucrat.
A 25-year-old Awami National Party worker, Humayun, was first attacked on Monday in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. He was accompanied by two other ANP activists and they had just returned from the party ward office. They were taken to a private hospital. ANP spokesperson Qadir Khan maintained that Humayun was picked up from outside the hospital - in the presence of policemen. He was killed and his body was found within two hours. Humayun was a resident of Block 8, Gulistan-e-Jauhar. He originally hailed from Kohistan.
The ANP spokesperson condemned the murder and demanded arrests. He also said the Sindh government should take action against police officials who were not processing the cases. No FIR was registered till the filing of this report.
Following this killing, areas such as Safoora Goth, Pehlwan Goth, Kamran Chowrangi and Rabia City reacted. Unidentified men set a bus, JA-0403, on fire and also injured a pedestrian, Shareef.
Meanwhile, the police found a young man’s body in Kharadar. He could not be identified but police officials suspected that he was from the Kutchi community. Lyari gangsters might be involved, they added. SHO Ghulam Afridi said that the victim was shot at least five times. He said witnesses told them that the suspects brought the victim to the spot, shot him and then escaped. They also found empty shells from the crime scene. The body was taken to Civil Hospital, Karachi for an autopsy and was later moved to the Edhi morgue.
Another body was found in Gadap Town within the jurisdiction of Surjani. Police said that the victim was shot once on his head. His body also bore marks of torture. The body was taken to the Edhi morgue after an autopsy at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. A young man’s body was found in Block K, North Nazimabad. There were no identification documents found on him. Police said his hands and legs had been tied and he was shot four times.
Yet another unidentified body was found in Shadman Town. He was shot thrice. Police said that he was kidnapped and killed, and then his body was abandoned at some other place.
MQM activist Mushtaq, 20, was injured four days ago in Bohrapir area. He died during treatment at CHK. Eidgah police said that he was a resident of Mughal Compound. He was shot on his way back from the funeral prayers of the unit incharge who was also gunned down during this recent killings.
Sixty-five-year-old Mohammad Khan was shot dead by unidentified men at Khadda Market on Shah Waliullah Road within the limits of Baghdadi police station. SHO Tasawar Hussain said Khan was an innocent bystander who was caught in the crossfire between the Peoples Amn Committee and the Kutchi Rabita Committee. The deceased was a resident of Lyari. A body of a young man was found from the Quaid-e-Azam Colony. His identity could not be ascertained but police said he appeared to be in his 20s. He was shot in the head and neck. His body was moved to the Edhi morgue.
