Sethi's call to end corruption a joke, says Imran

Former Pakistan captain Imran Khan in a tweet on Saturday slammed Pakistan Super League (PSL) chairman Najam Sethi by calling it a ‘joke’ that a person once accused of rigging elections is out to clean the sport of cricket.

On Friday, PSL franchise Islamabad United players Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif were provisionally suspended by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over their alleged involvement in match-fixing, while other players' names are also surfacing.

Sethi, while slamming the players, had said that the PCB and the PSL governing committee will do everything in their power to eliminate the menace of corruption in the sport.

Imran, meanwhile, found it amusing that a person who himself has an allegedly corrupt background can curb corruption in the sport and claimed that rigging elections is a bigger crime than fixing games and that former threatens democracy while the latter merely affects a single sport.

Ahmad Nawaz | 7 years ago | Reply Firstly T20 was conceived in England by the ECB. Secondly it was natural progression that every country has its own league. It wasn't rocket science to start PSL in fact I know of people had been touting the idea for years. No credit is due Sethi whatsoever. He's presided over an organisation that is becoming ever more based on nepotism where hard work and effort are not rewarded. He's done an awful job. Poor level domestic cricket, no proper educational programs for players, no transition or succession planning....it's simply a vehicle to fund corruption and rewarding the deeds of miscreants. He knows nothing about the game and has consistently been shown to work against the best interests of Pakistan. This whole situation re alleged fixing has been dealt with appallingly and he's to blame. Those supporting his position are representative of exactly those elements within Pakistan which are responsible for our regression. Time to make Pakistan great again and that means sincerity in leadership. And before anyone uses lazy diatribe against my comments.....no, I'm not a PTI supporter either, just a devout, sincere patriot.

D Kamal | 7 years ago | Reply Has Mr Khan lost his head? So in his world two wrongs make a right. He was asked to help Pakistan cricket and give gudiance and advice all he seems to be doing is name calling and trying to advance his own political agenda. And now most of the population are starting to ask what is the difference between him and any other politician I had some time and respect for Mr Khan at one time now I just pity the old chap.
