BAHAWALPUR: At least 114 drivers participated in the qualifying round of the 12th Cholistan Desert Jeep Rally 2017 which was held on February 8 and 9.

As part of the event, hundreds of camps were set up in Cholistan Desert. A colourful event was also organised for the spectators.

In the first qualifying round, Zain Mehmood clinched first position by covering the distance of 2.25 kilometres in 1 minute and 29 seconds. Nadir Magsi secured second position with 1 minute and 30 seconds, while Jam Kamal and Roni Patel secured third positions with 1 minute and 33 seconds. However, defending champion Sahibzada Sultan bagged fourth position with 1 minute 35 seconds.

During the competition, several vehicles broke down and were taken for repair.

To add entertainment to the event, a horse race was held in which jockeys from Attock, Khushab, Bahawalpur, Lodhran, Tala Gang and Jhelum districts participated. The first position was clinched by Asia Riding Club’s Farhan Afzal Kanjoo’s horse. Malik Ahsan Channar’s horse remained on second position while third place was secured by Moazzam Khan’s horse belonging to Asia Riding Club.
