England limited overs captain Eoin Morgan played a stunning knock to help Peshawar Zalmi registered seven-wicket win over Karachi Kings at Dubai Cricket Stadium on Friday.

Chasing a modest total of 119 to open their account in the tournament, Zalmi was in a spot of bother after losing two quick wickets.

However, Morgan played a breathtaking knock of 80 not out off just 57 balls with the help of eight fours and three sixes to take Darren Sammy's side home.

Quetta Gladiators win by eight runs

For Karachi, pacers Mohammad Amir, Sohail Khan and all-rounder Imad Wasim claimed one wicket each.

Earlier, after sent into bat first, Kings managed just 118 for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

At one stage, Kings were down to 12 for four in the fifth over, but 59-run fifth wicket partnership between Ravi Bopara (33 off 40) and Pakistan veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik brought some respectability on the score card.

Malik finished the innings with the top score of 44 off 36 balls with the help of three fours and one six.

For Peshawar, off-spinner Mohammad Hafeez and left-arm pacer Wahab Riaz claimed two wickets each.

Presentation:

Eoin Morgan (man of the match): I think winning the toss and bowl first helped us. In the end, there was a lot of dew. A lot of credit goes to our bowlers, especially Hasan Ali and Mohammad Hafeez, who reduced the opposition to 12 for four, and from there on we controlled the game.

Kumara Sangakara: We didn’t really bat well in the power play. It was not a 130-140 wicket, it was more like 150-160 wicket. We made it look more difficult than it was actually. We got a very strong batting lineup and we have to make sure we put good runs on the board.

Darren Sammy: After the last night’s loss, guys were disappointed. The way they all bounced back was just brilliant. The good thing is in the dressing room, we are all professional, so we were really up for it even though it was our second match in one day really. I think Hafeez bowled really well upfront. We bowled really well in the power play. It just stuck in my hand [Babar Azam’s catch] to be honest.
