KARACHI:

The banned duo of Salman Butt and Mohammad Amir will fly to London tomorrow for a hearing at the magistrate’s court with hopes of clearing their names from a criminal investigation.

They will join Mohammad Asif who is already in London to appear in the hearing scheduled to take place at City of Westminster Magistrates’ Court on March 17.

The trio faces charges of accepting bribes and trying to defraud in a case brought by the Crown Prosecution Service. The three players – banned from all cricketing activity for at least five years by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after they were found guilty of spot-fixing – face punishment  of upto seven years if found guilty of corruption.

“I’m not looking at such possibilities,” Salman told The Express Tribune. “I am only hoping to defend my case successfully,” said the former captain.

Salman will be represented by India-based British lawyer Yasin Patel while Amir and Asif are also expected to continue with the same legal team of Shahid Karim and Alexander Cameroon respectively, who presented their case before the ICC hearing.
