Police kill six ‘militants’ in Malir encounter

According to SSP Anwar, the suspects were thought to be affiliated with al Qaeda

KARACHI: Karachi police on Thursday said they killed six suspected militants in an encounter in the city’s Malir area.

“Acting on a intelligence tip off, police raided a militant hideout in Malir,” SSP Malik Rao Anwar said. “Six were killed in an exchange of fire while two managed to escape,” he said.

According to SSP Anwar, the suspects were thought to be affiliated with al Qaeda and were involved in murders of law enforcers, bomb blasts and other militant activities. He added that they were planning to carry out a terrorist attack in the metropolis.

One of the terror suspects who were shot dead was identified as Noor Afsar.
