SHABQADAR: A controversy stirred up after the Charsadda district government sealed a seminary of the JUI-Fazl in Tangi.

The administration defended the action against Darul-Uloom Taleem-ul-Quran wa Sunnat, saying the National Action Plan consideration had necessitated it, while the seminary’s Mutawali termed it a political move.

“DPO Charsadda Sohail Khalid is in cahoots with QWP chief Aftab Sherpao and has sealed the seminary so that they can remove me from his political way in the next general elections,” JUI-F (Charsadda district) general-secretary Mufti Gauhar Ali told a news conference. He was accompanied by JUI-F district Amir Maulana Hashim Khan.

He also disclosed that the DPO had sent him a message through two JUI-F district council members to leave the political space in the district for Sherpao, adding, “he also asked me to end my party’s alliance with the ANP”.

Mufti Gauhar said about 400 students would be affected by the action of the district government. “I even fear for my life.”

He said he would lodge an FIR against the DPO in case he faced any untoward incident or got hurt. The JUI-F leader urged the K-P IG and Mardan DIG to probe the DPO’s action and also demanded his transfer, as according to him he (the DPO) was unaware of local customs.

Meanwhile, Charsadda Deputy Commissioner Tahir Zafar Abbasi, while denying the allegation levelled by the JUI-F leader, said the seminary had been sealed on the directives of the federal and provincial governments.

Talking to the media after attending a function in connection with the Kashmir Day, he said: “The administration is not a party to any group or targeting a political party,” adding, “The action is taken purely under NAP.”
