ASTORE:
A crackdown against underage drivers has been initiated in Skardu district to ensure their safety besides avoiding traffic jams, said Superintendent of Police (SP) Skardu, Ahmed Shabbir on Wednesday.
“Traffic system in the city would be improved and crackdown against under age drivers was continuing as 60 underage drivers were arrested,” SP Shabbir said talking to the media.
Road safety: Drive against underage driving launched
Economic prosperity coupled with increased inflow of tourists has increased the number of vehicles in this northern district.
The sprawling city has started to show signs of metropolitan decadence like sale of drugs on streets, organised crime and traffic chaos.
“The city would be cleansed of the anti-social elements and drug peddlers,” the SP said. He said the law enforcing agencies were already engaged in action against anti-social elements, drug peddlers and narcotics dealers.
Wheels of fury: ‘90% accidents caused by motorcyclists’
According to SP Shabbir, checking at all entry and exit points of the city has been tightened to keep a vigil on activities of people under watch for their criminal record and involvement in sectarian activities. He said policemen would be provided all facilities, adding that checking was underway at various check posts falling on Gilgit-Skardu road to ensure maintenance of public order.
The SP impressed upon policemen to be vigilant in their duties.
