Butt, Bari given last chance to respond

LAHORE:

A civil judge issued notices to Ijaz Butt, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairperson, and Wasim Bari, a former PCB chief executive officer, giving them the last chance to file their replies in a petition filed by Advocate Dr Farooq Hassan for not paying his dues while assisting them in an inquiry following the attack on Sri Lankan cricket team in March 2009.

The petitioner sought attachment of the defendants’ property. He asked the court to order them to pay Rs45 million and $92,000, allegedly for the non payment of the fee in respect of the professional services he had rendered to the PCB in a month-long inquiry held at the Lahore High Court. The International Cricket Council is also a party in this matter.

The petitioner said he feared that the defendants may be dismissed by the government any time, making it difficult for him to make the recovery of the said amount.

The petitioner also sought for attachment of the respondents’ properties including three Land Cruisers, four Toyota cars, their houses in Gulberg, Lahore; Gujrat; and Karachi as well as their salary and bank accounts.
