Unlawful attendance: Suspended members attend assembly session

GM Umer Farooq could not answer why his secretariat did not stop, these members from entering the assembly session

KARACHI: Around 17 lawmakers belonging to various parties in the Sindh Assembly attended the session on Monday, despite the fact that their membership has been suspended for not submitting details of their assets to the election commission. Among others whose membership is suspended and attended the proceedings, MPAs include Rehana Leghari, Mukesh Chawla, Javeed Nangori, Rukhsana Parven, Mohammad Ali Bhutto, Shahnaz Beghum and Ghazala Siyal of the Pakistan Peoples Party,  Mahfooz Yar Khan, Qamar Abbas, Saleem Bandhani, Mohammad Kamran of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Nusrat Seher Abbasi of the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional and Sorath Thebo of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.

According to Section 42 A of the representation of the People Act 1976, the suspended members cannot attend the session. When contacted, the secretary of the Sindh Assemblyq, GM Umer Farooq could not answer why his secretariat did not stop, these members from entering the assembly session.
