KARACHI: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) metropolitan commissioner Badar Jamil has asked Sindh IG Allah Dino Khawaja to increase security for Mayor Wasim Akhtar and Deputy Mayor Arshad Vohra.

Jamil made this demand in a letter on January 26, a copy of which is available with The Express Tribune. According to the letter, the mayor and deputy mayor, as per their job requirement, have to frequently visit high risk areas. “Recently, it has been learnt from reliable sources that the security risk factor has been increased for mayor and deputy mayor,” the letter reads.

Police want Karachi mayor’s name on Fourth Schedule

South SSP advised that the case regarding their security must be re-energised in the wake of prevailing security threats, according to the letter. “It is therefore requested that adequate security may kindly be provided on top priority.” Perturbed over his own security situation, the mayor contacted Karachi Corps Commander Lt Gen Shahid Baig Mirza on Monday.
