KESC staff protest for seventh day running

KARACHI:
Labour organisations continued their protest on Thursday at the Karachi Press Club for the seventh consecutive day for the reinstatement of 294 KESC employees who had earlier been sacked.

The joint action committee of labourers, along with provincial ministers Rafiq Engineer and Abdul Haseeb Khan as well as adviser to Sindh chief minister Khawaja Azharal Hassan, demanded the regularisation of contractual jobs, adding that the company’s bad performance was creating problems for its employees as well as residents. The Sindh government will lodge a treason case against the KESC management if they do not get back on track, said Khan, adding that the KESC should accept the employees’ demands.

The employees will hold a massive protest outside Engineering House in Gizri if KESC does not stop exploiting them, said Hassan. PPP Karachi Division president Najmi Alam appealed to Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry to take suo motu notice against all organisations exploiting their employees.
