ISLAMABAD: A sessions court on Thursday extended interim bail granted to a judge who is at the centre of a controversy surrounding alleged torture of a 10-year-old housemaid.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Raja Khurram Ali Khan’s interim pre-arrest bail has been extended to February 1 after he appeared before Additional District and Sessions Judge Raja Asif Mehmood on Thursday.

Protecting our children

Khan and his wife Maheen Zafar were booked by the Industrial Area police on December 29 after the 10-year-old victim accused them of keeping her in wrongful confinement, burning her hand, beating her with a ladle, detaining her in a storeroom and threatening her.

Later, the father of the victim girl ‘forgave’ the judge and his wife “in the name of God”. The Supreme Court; however, took suo motu notice in the case and overruled the pardon granted to the suspects by exercising parental jurisdiction in the matter.

Tayyaba’s case

A high-level police team headed by DIG (operations) Kashif Alam has been investigating the case against the judge and his wife. It is pertinent to note here that an interim police investigation report submitted to the court says that the child was tortured by Maheen Zafar.

Khan has since been made an OSD by the Islamabad High Court. His wife Maheen Zafar had also obtained pre-arrest bail.
