One Piece Three Ways: Jeem By Hamza Bokhari

While trends fade, style remains eternal and one piece can be put together in many different ways. In this feature we have three fashionistas showing us how to put together an item from a designers collection, according to their own individual style and taste!



This beautiful cape is from Jeem by Hamza Bokhari’s ‘Nahrooz’ collection, which was showcased at Fashion Pakistan Week 2016. The cape is completely handmade, enduring months of craftsmanship. It is made using marori, zardozi and resham techniques in order to create a relatively modern silhouette, which also exudes old world charm.

People who know me know that I’m a global nomad. I’m very proud of my heritage and you’ll always see a Balochi influence in my style. Even with the Jeem cape, I tried adding some ethnicity to my look. I first paired the cape with a black and gold shalwar, and enhanced it by accessorising with a chunky arm-cuff, an ethnic ear-cuff and a classic anklet. I completed the outfit with gold, tilla khussay. I tied my hair up and for my make-up, I went for dramatic eyes with nude lips. I already have plans of wearing this to my sister’s mehndi!

I love celebrating our culture in full bloom! Since I was going for a formal look I played with jewellery and a lot of bling. I wore this beautifully embellished Jeem cape with a rust coloured lehnga. I then paired it with a polki and kundan tikka, necklace and earrings. For my make-up I did a smoky eye, with nude lips and a lot of bronzer. I kept my hair simple and straight. I would totally wear this to a wedding — I love the burst of colours!

Personally, I like adding contemporary pieces to my ethnic outfits in order to give the silhouette my own unique touch, while keeping it clean and crisp. For this Jeem cape, I went for a fusion look. I first wore orange, flared pants to incorporate some colour and then added a chunky, gold belt for a contemporary touch. I kept my hair straight and for my make-up I went for bold, red lips with a dewy complexion. Since it’s the season of festivities, I would love to wear this outfit to a friend’s dholki or maybe even a fashion event where I want to make a statement.
