Changing technology: CIME launches facility for medical students

KARACHI: A large number of simulators that will be used by medical students to practise upon were presented at the simulation ward on Sunday.

The ward was set up as part of a one-day long healthcare professionals networking forum, titled 'Tomorrow's Healthcare Today', was held at Aga Khan University Hospital on Sunday.

Center for Innovation in Medical Innovation (CIME) director Dr Charles Docherty, while talking to the healthcare professionals on a tour of the facility, said, "It's a unique idea, which will help in skills strengthening and professional development of healthcare professionals."

The simulators can be operated on to get first-hand experience on complex subjects such as angiography and neurosurgery and will allow the staff to monitor temperature, blood pressure and heart rate on the simulations. "Due to ethical issues, we can't practise on real patients so we practise on simulators," said one of the students of second year of Aga Khan University Hospital, Samrah Razi.
