Luxury Swiss watchmaker H Moser has just revealed their newest watch and it's made from real cheese.

A new law requiring watchmakers to have sourced 60 per cent of their material in Switzerland if they stamp the ‘Swiss Made’ label to their timepieces led the luxury watchmaker to use cow hide and Swiss cheese for its newest watch.

Claiming that the law is “too lenient, providing no guarantee, creating confusion and encouraging abuses of the system,” H Moser, which sources 95 per cent of its material domestically, decided to create the "most Swiss watch" they could.

The "Swiss Mad" is made from Vacherin Mont d’Or medaille d’or cheese, which is pasteurised so it "doesn't stink"and the strap is made from cowhide, “the obvious choice.”

The dial is a deep red, with four white indexes, representing Switzerland’s national flag, indicating every quarter of an hour.

What makes it even more Swiss is its price of 1,081,291 francs (£870,865), which commemorates the date of Swiss National Day – August 1, 1291.

All proceeds from the sale of this watch will be used to create a fund to support independent Swiss watchmaking suppliers currently suffering under the difficult economic situation and outsourcing to Asia.
