SHC orders case against Musharraf for treason

Court directs interior minister and FIA to carry out necessary legal procedure for this.

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday ordered a case to be registered against former president general Pervez Musharraf on charges of treason.

The court also instructed interior minister and the FIA to carry out necessary legal procedure in this regard.

Earlier, complainant Attahullah Shah had filed a petition in Sindh High Court against the former president. He accused him of imposing emergency in the country on November 3 2007,  without any concrete reason.

The petitioner also accused Musharraf of sacking and torturing senior judges of the courts.

He said Musharraf's actions, resulted in abrogation of the constitution which is tantamount to treason.

Musharraf has also come under fire in the Benazir Bhutto assassination case recently. On Saturday, an Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Musharraf for the third time. Musharraf has been declared a proclaimed offender by the same court twice before this. The FIA has also submitted a formal request with Interpol to secure the extradition of Musharaf from the United Kingdom.
