5 moments that made the Miss Veet finale a night to remember
From puzzling comments to Ali Zafar's performance, we have it all covered here
Wednesday night saw the grand finale of Miss Veet 2016. The who’s who of the entertainment industry was in attendance at the ceremony, held at Karachi's Mohatta Palace. The show lived up to expectations despite a slight delay, the proceedings short and sweet. Here are five moments which made it memorable:
1. Ali Zafar’s performance
No grand finale is complete without the leading Pakistani pop star. Ali mesmerised the audience with his soulful voice and quirky mannerisms. He set the mood with Jhoom and followed it up with Yaar Dadhi.
What the audience did not see coming were the variations he introduced in the song. He crooned selected parts in Spanish, opera and qawwali styles.
“In this part of the world, we see a lot of heartbroken people. Our singing style shows that too,” he said, before switching to qawwali. He went on to croon Chal Dil Mere and Rangeen to conclude his performance on a high note.

2.The finalists’ fangirling over Ali
Well, this wasn’t really a surprise. Any girl would go gaga if she was on stage with Zafar. But what rendered things awkward was the extent of fan-girling, with the three finalists Zainab Raja, Zartab Bano and Lara Mudhwal forgetting they were present before hundreds of people.
Bano said, “Mae baaten buhat achi karti hoon.” Zafar responded, “To karke batayen. Suppose we are speaking on the phone at 2am. What would you say? Achi baaten, buri baaten nahi.” To this, Bano said she’d prefer "buri baaten."
3. 'Thora Jee Le' performance
The cast of Rafay Rashdi’s directorial Thora Jee Le performed live to a catchy tune from the film’s soundtrack. With the film about a group of friends on road trip, the song had a fun and happening feel to it. Even the choreography was decent but the performance looked under-rehearsed. Coordination mishaps prevented it from creating much-needed hype ahead of the film’s release.

4. Imran Abbas’ confusing comments
Several titles were conferred on the contestants, from Most Confident to Most Popular on Digital Media. Imran Abbas was invited on stage to present the title of Most Intelligent Contestant to Samiha Khan. After presenting the title, he was asked to say a few words.
“Wo kehte hen na, beauty fades, dumb rules,” he said, garnering a puzzled reaction from the audience. “I mean… I’m glad that the show is recognising intelligence as well, not just beauty.” We are not sure whether this was a compliment or not, Imran.

5. 'Balu Mahi' stars gracing the stage
Osman Khalid Butt and Sadaf Kanwal came to present the Most Popular Contestant on Digital Media title to Laraib Shah. After presenting the title, the two stayed to talk about their upcoming film Balu Mahi slated for a February 10 release.
The two stars are set to grace the big screen together when Balu Mahi releases on February 10. “Go watch the film. It’s really good… because I’m telling you,” Sadaf said in a rather amusing at selling the film.
