LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court, on Monday, issued notices to the Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Educations (BISEs) in Punjab for March 9 on an application part of a petition challenging the new format of the objective part of the matriculation examination. The application seeks a court order to stay the examination till a decision has been reached on the petition.

The application was filed by Muhammad Azhar Siddique as part of his already pending main petition.

The petitioner submitted that all of Punjab’s BISEs had changed the procedure of objective type exams for matriculation and students needed more time to understand the new pattern. He said the administrations had decided to create hurdles for students in the exams.

The administration had at first, he said, introduced FORM-B as compulsory for admissions.

Later, he said, they announced that students would register the admission forms online which added to the suffering of the students. He said the step failed as students were not able to meet the deadline for submitting the online admission forms. The petitioner said that majority of students had not been able to get their roll number slips and had had to visit the board office several times. The students had to bribe officials to get their roll number slips, he added.

The petitioner prayed to the court to order all the boards to withdraw their new pattern of examination and stay the holding of exams till a final decision on the petition. Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed issued notices to the boards.
