No treatment: PMDC to probe patient’s death
Patient was suffering from kidney disease and not provided with a bed in the hospital, nor was she given any treatment
ISLAMABAD:
Pakistan Medical and Dental Council formed an inquiry committee to look into the death of Zohra Bibi, who died on the floor of a hospital without treatment. The patient was brought to Arif Memorial Hospital Lahore, an attached teaching hospital of Rashid Latif Medical College on January 1, 2017. She was suffering from kidney disease and not provided with a bed in the hospital, nor was she given any treatment. The patient finally went to Jinnah Hospital Lahore, but died on January 2. The Punjab government’s Specialised Health care and Medical Education department took serious notice of the incident. It requested that the PMDC look into the case and ordered strict action against hospitals and private medical dental colleges who are not offering 50% treatment discounts to the poor. All private hospitals are bound by PMDC regulations to offer beds and discounted treatment.
