LAHORE: French Ambassador to Pakistan Martine Dorance called on Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) Chairman Lt Gen (Retired) Muzammil Hussain at the Wapda House and discussed with him matters relating to mutual cooperation for the development of water and hydroelectric power projects.

Underlining the significance of foreign investment, Hussain said projects in both the water and hydroelectric power sectors were offering excellent investment opportunities. He expressed hope that cooperation between the French Development Agency AFD and Wapda would further strengthen.

Several China-sponsored power projects hit snags

He praised the French government for AFD’s financial support for the implementation of various Wapda projects. The ambassador said France had a long-standing relationship with Wapda.

In addition to the ongoing Wapda projects, the possibility of financial support by the AFD for the construction of Mohmand Dam and Harpo Hydropower Project was also discussed in detail during the meeting.

“France is providing financial support for the refurbishment, rehabilitation and capacity enhancement of various hydroelectric power projects in Pakistan including the Mangla Refurbishment Project, Warsak Hydroelectric Power Station and rehabilitation of Dargai Hydroelectric Power Station,” added Dorance.
