Uncharitable: G-B minister alleges graft in Zakat Dept

Minister accuses two district chairpersons in the Zakat Department in Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) of embezzlement.

GILGIT: Regional minister for Zakat and Health Haji Gulbar has accused two district chairpersons in the Zakat Department in Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) of embezzlement.

“Audit reports have revealed that the Diamer District Chairperson has embezzled over Rs2 million while complaints against the Astore Chairman have also been rising,” Haji Gulbar said.

He said that deserving people who were issued cheques approached him to complain about cheques bouncing. He added that the Diamer Zakat Chairperson has admitted committing misappropriation. “He has spoken with the chief secretary and sought time to return the embezzled funds to the government,” he said.
