ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) Friday ordered two police officials and members of a family to stop threatening a newly married couple.

Shaista Haider, an 18-year-old resident of Tramari Chowk, filed a writ petition against two Station House Officers (SHOs) of Shahzad Town and Koral police, along with her brothers, Jaffar Haider and Iftikhar Haider, for harassing and humiliating her and her husband Muhammad Waqar.

She said that since her marriage on February 15, her brothers have been conniving with the police to harass the young couple and even threatened their lives. She told the court that her family members, especially her brothers, were unhappy with the marriage, and on February 26 her brothers and 20 unknown men entered her house and threatened them.

“They forcibly entered my house and told me to leave Waqar,” she said.

According to the petitioner, when she approached the police they were reluctant to take action and “later joined hands with their families to harass them”.
