KARACHI:

Maulana Muhammad Ahmed Madani — brother of slain Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan chief Maulana Azam Tariq —and his son, Abu Bakar, was killed in an ambush in North Karachi on Saturday.

Madani, 56, was the founder of the Jamia Muhammadia Trust and a leader of the Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat, the former Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan, according to party members.

Madani and his son were in their car, bearing the licence plate No. ED-4111, in New Karachi Sector 5-J when unidentified culprits riding a motorcycle sprayed them with bullets. They were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where both of them succumbed to their injuries.

Scores of Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat leaders, workers and supporters reached the hospital and shouted slogans against the killing of their activists. They demanded the government arrest the culprits immediately.

“Maulana Madani had stopped his car and was waiting for someone when the assailants attacked him,” Khawaja Ajmer Nagri DSP Altaf Hussain told The Express Tribune. “Maybe someone had called him at the place where the incident occurred.”

Madani was the administrator of the Jamia Muhammadia Trust, Buffer Zone and according to officials, he was the former president of the banned Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan’s Karachi division 11 years ago.

The DSP said that it was not clear who was behind the attack but authorities have begun investigations.

Earlier, in 2005, Madani was injured and his other son, Abdullah, was killed in firing near Buffer Zone.

Tension gripped North Karachi, New Karachi, Nagan Chowrangi and surrounding areas after the incident and law enforcers were put on high alert to avoid any untoward incident as riots were expected.

Muhammad Hasan | 13 years ago | Reply May Allah rest their souls in Peace and bring the killers under the severe punishment both in this life and Hereafter! Love of sahabah took their lives! People who hate the beloved companions of the Holy Prophet Muhammad Salllahoalayhi wasallam couldn't like him or any other person to express their adoration for the Sahabah.
