The 71st Punjab Games, after being postponed four times, have finally made it to the calendar for April 7 to 9 this year.
The general council of the Punjab Olympics Association (PbOA) finalised the dates of the Punjab Games while also announcing that the 32nd National Games 2012 will be held between October 21 to 27 next year.
The Punjab Games were postponed previously due to lack of funds and non-cooperation of the sports secretariat. The provincial sports department refused to release funds despite an announcement of a grant of Rs5 million. However, the PbOA has now decided to hold the Punjab Games on its own.
“We’ll generate money through sponsors for both male and female categories in the games,” said PbOA Senior Vice-President Iftikhar Malik.
The tournament will include 19 competitions for male events while the female players will compete in eight disciplines.
