The demand was made during a press conference by deputy secretary-general of the party, Imran Ismail, and acting president of Karachi, Khurrum Sher Zaman, at Insaf House on Monday.
Ismail said that the state should avoid delay tactics and take up these cases of terrorism on a priority basis.
The state has failed to act against the criminals even after confessions by various individuals such as Saulat Mirza, Rehman Bhola and Kamran Farooqi against the leadership of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), remarked Zaman. We must question the silence of state on these pressing issues, he stated. Giving an example, Zaman claimed that Farooqi, a sitting MPA, confessed before a judicial magistrate about his involvement in the incident of May 12, 2007, and also took the names of MQM leaders. However, the state failed to act on the confession. He added that the MQM has betrayed the Urdu-speaking community of the city by befooling them with fake promises.
"I demand that those responsible for the incident of May 12 should be hanged on Sharae Faisal and those who were involved in the Baldia incident should be hanged at the Baldia factory," said Zaman.
