KARACHI: A former activist of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi was gunned down on Wednesday in what the police described as target killing in Shah Faisal Colony No 1.

SHO Atif Shah said victim Adil Mansoor Ahmed was sitting at A-1 restaurant and eating a meal with a friend when at least three men armed with automatic weapons ambushed him and sprayed him with bullets. He was shot five times and died on the spot, the police said. He was a resident of Gulistan-i-Jauhar Block No 13 and the father of two children. Ahmed used to live in Shah Faisal Colony where he had come to collect rent for one of his houses.

The SHO said that he was an activist but had left the party. One of his cousins, Rizwan, who was affiliated with the MQM-H, had also been killed a few months back. Ahmed’s body was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and was handed over to his family. The police have registered a case (No 256/10) under Section 302/34 against unidentified suspects on his cousin Farrukh’s complaint.

Target killings Five men were rounded up from different parts of the city on Wednesday on suspicion of being involved in target killings, robberies and street crime. An informer tipped the police off and SIU men went to Lines Area, Korangi and Zaman Town where Zahid, Abdul Rehman, Rahimuddin, Abdul Rahim and Haroon, were arrested with weapons: five TT pistols and 26 rounds of bullets.

DSP Ali Raza said the police had been looking for them for some time. “They are not only involved in killings but also robberies and streets crimes,” DSP Ali Raza said.
