Hospitals, aviation and police get ‘technical’

KARACHI: Hospitals and the aviation and police departments will receive computerised management systems, decided the standing committee with the department of Information Technology and Sindh government on Wednesday.

The hospital management and information system will be crucial for Civil Hospital, Karachi while the other departments will benefit from a tracking system, traffic management and the police helpline 15 command and control. IT Secretary Muhammad Hussain told the officials that work is being carried out on the IT City mega project, a call centre for unemployed youth, a video conferencing system, the computerisation of the advocate general Sindh’s offices, IT centres at the district level and the internet for rural areas in Sindh.

He added that the e-policing project will be completed next year, while the implementation of the biometric electronic system has also been started. In the year 2010-11, the Geographic Information System (GIS) project will be sent for approval as it could not be approved this year due to a lack of funds. MPA Imran Zafar Leghari urged the finance department to approve the GIS project. The meeting was attended by MPAs Naheed Begum and Muhammad Amir Khan and Secretary IT Mohammad Hussain.
