Suspect accused of locking pregnant wife inside room without food

LAHORE: A woman has taken her husband to court for allegedly locking her inside a room for days without any food during her pregnancy.

In a petition filed in the district and sessions court, Memona Bibi accused her husband of not even allowing her to meet her parents while he himself stayed away from home, forcing her to go to sleep in  the room locked from the outside.

The judge has directed the Sherakot SHO to submit his comments on the plea.

The petitioner stated that she married Habib Khan and they lived happily for some time before their relationship hit the rocks. Whenever she asked him to take her to her parents’ house, the man used to torture her and locked her in a room.

One day, the man finally took his wife to her parents’ house but left her there to live with them. Only a few days ago, the man along with his friends visited her and tried to take away their newborn child. When the woman refused to part with her baby, the man threatened her with death and throwing acid on her.

The elders of her family intervened to pacify the man but all their efforts went in vain. When the plaintiff approached the Sherakot SHO, he also did not entertain her. Memona requested the court to direct the SHO to register a case against her husband.

Talking to The Express Tribune, the petitioner’s counsel said her client needed police protection to avoid any untoward incident as the suspect along with his accomplices had been threatening her with acid attack.
