Coach-car collision: Two children among five killed

At least six other passengers injured

HARIPUR: Five members of a family were killed while six others were injured when a speeding passenger coach collided into a van near Haripur on Friday morning.

The accident was the result of reckless driving by the coach driver, police and eyewitnesses said.

Police said that a Suzuki high-roof, with 11 members of a family, including two women and children, was travelling from Abbottabad to Rawalpindi.

Near Baldhair village on the GT Road at around 6:30 am, a recklessly driven passenger coach of Niazi Express crashed into the van. The accident was so severe that the speeding coach dragged the ill-fated van for almost 100 metres. Three passengers in the van were killed on the spot while eight suffered critical injuries.

The injured and dead were rushed to Women and Children Hospital where two of the injured succumbed to their injuries.

The injured were later shifted to Ayub Medical Complex in Abbottabad where the condition of three passengers was described as critical, doctors and police said.

Those killed were identified as Nasim Bibi, Abida Bibi, Atif, nine-year-old Ziaur Rehman, and seven-year-old Seher Bibi. The injured were identified as Zubair, Swaira Bibi, Yusra Bibi, Uzair, Yasir and driver Ayaz.
