“The woman was beheaded with a bayonet attached to an AK-47 after an argument with the Taliban in her remote village, which is part of the provincial capital,” Sar-e Pol Women's Affairs Head Nasima Arezo said.

According to national broadcaster TOLO news, Sar-e Pol official Zabiullah Amani said the incident took place in a village of Latti, Sar-e-Pol province in northern Afghanistan.

Amani added that the reason behind the beheading was that the woman, whose husband is currently in Iran, went shopping alone. He said the men who killed the woman were allegedly linked to the Taliban, but the group has denied any involvement in the beheading and no arrests have been made so far.

Sar-e-Pol has been under the Taliban control since 1998. Earlier this year, five female Afghan guards working in the airport in southern Kandahar were killed by unknown gunmen as they were on their way to work.
