GILGIT: To tackle poverty and to improve community participation in development programmes, the Local Government and Rural Development (LG&RD) and the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) signed an agreement in Gilgit on Saturday.

“This MoU will
strengthen collaboration between local support organizations and the LG&RD and local bodies,” said Aziz Ali Dad, a spokesperson for AKRSP. “Its purpose is to reduce negative impacts of poverty through active and effective participation of communities in
development activities.

He said the MoU was also aimed at creating opportunities for public-private and civil society partnerships to execute projects and programms for the mutual benefit of communities living within the jurisdiction of the LG&RD across G-B.

Muzaffaruddin, general manager  of AKRSP, termed the MoU a giant leap in the development of G-B.

Helga Ahmad | 7 years ago | Reply AKRSP has since its inception, 1978, focused on community development. Nearly 40 years have past, therefore why repeat a mistake, as surely this seems to be the case. It would seem necessary to undertake a thorough analysis, what went wrong, rather than repeat a mistake.
Helga Ahmad | 7 years ago | Reply This is most surprising, as AKRSP has since its inception, more than 30 years ago, been focusing on community development in Gilgit-Baltistan as well as Chitral. Why should a repeat follow, when actually an evaluation needs to be undertaken why this system was it not sustainable.
