ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Capital Development and Administration Division has sent a summary to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat to grant the additional charge of the director general of Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) to Dr Zafar Nassrullah.

Dr Nasrullah, currently serving as an additional secretary at CADD, is a bureaucrat from the Pakistan Administrative Services with vast experience of working in various federal and provincial departments.

Minister of State for CADD Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry had proposed Dr Nasrullah’s name in the summary.

However, Dr Nasrullah is going on a leave from December 26, and in his absence, CADD Joint Secretary Aisha Farooq would work as acting DG of the FDE.

Previous FDE director general Shahnaz Riaz had retired on December 10 this year after attaining the age of superannuation.

A number of names are being considered to fill the spot on a permanent basis.

Meanwhile, sources said that promotion cases from FDE were not sent to the Establishment Division as all the three contestants claim they are the senior most.

They have lodged complaints against each other with CADD secretary. Their cases will be sent for promotion from BS-19 to BS-20 next year after resolution of the claims in CADD.

Earlier, The Express Tribune had reported that the FDE also failed to prepare a list of principals of government degree colleges to appoint as the new full-time director general.

According to the rules for appointing an FDE director general – a BS-20 post – the appointee would have to be from within the department, including serving directors of BS-19, or a principal of a degree college in BS-19 who has at least 17 years of teaching or administrative experience.

SRO-225 dictates that the DG must have at least 17 years of teaching or administrative service in BS-17, or at least 12 years of service in BS-18 and above, or five years in teaching or administrative service in BS-19 in the case of direct recruits.
